Bella Vista Equine Veterinary Services is looking for a dependable, enthusiastic Veterinary Assistant to join our growing equine practice. This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys working with horses, and takes pride in excellent patient care and client service.
This position requires evening or weekend shifts to support emergency ambulatory services.
About the Role
As a Veterinary Assistant, you’ll support veterinarians and technicians during appointments, procedures, diagnostics, and emergency calls. You’ll help keep our day running smoothly by preparing equipment, assisting with patient handling, maintaining supplies, and supporting a safe and organized work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely restrain horses during examinations and medical procedures
- Set up and break down medical and diagnostic equipment
- Prepare and package lab samples for in-house and referral testing
- Clean, disinfect, and maintain instruments and equipment
- Restock supplies daily for appointments and procedures
- Perform sterile scrubbing for nerve blocks and assist with sterile techniques
- Support diagnostic procedures (radiographs, ultrasound, gastroscopy, etc.)
- Assist with catheter placement, injections, shockwave therapy, and other procedures
- Safely jog and lunge horses for evaluations
- Maintain a clean, safe work environment (clinic and field)
- Communicate professionally with clients, providing compassionate, knowledgeable support
What We’re Looking For
- Horse experience required
- 1+ year of veterinary assistant experience preferred (equine strongly preferred)
- Basic understanding of equine behavior and veterinary care
- Strong time management, multitasking, and attention to detail
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physical tasks in a barn/field setting
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Excellent communication skills and a positive, team-first attitude
