Riding Assistant
Job Description
Our Riding Assistants work as a team to care for the horses as well as teach riding lessons to our campers.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Assist in the maintenance of the physical facilities, equipment, and horses used in the program.
- Set up the horseback riding area. This includes pre/post season set up as well as daily use.
- Daily care of horses (feeding, watering, grooming, cleaning stalls and barn, etc.).
- Maintain and conduct daily check of area and equipment (all tack, stalls, arena, etc.) for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.
- Review horses for health needs, behavioral issues, and tack needs.
- Ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow safety and educational procedures.
- Assist in the implementation of staff training for horseback riding including rules of the trail, barn, arena, and safety equipment.
- Train other staff in their responsibilities when horseback riding.
- Ensure campers and staff follow safety procedures.
- Be knowledgeable about the horseback riding arena and trails available to the program.
- With the Riding Director and Intern, assist in the planning, direction, and supervision of:
- A safe and fun horseback riding program.
- Developing camp appropriate horseback riding activities and lesson plans.
- Planning of special events on or near the horseback riding arena.
