Riding Assistant

Job Description

Our Riding Assistants work as a team to care for the horses as well as teach riding lessons to our campers.

Primary responsibilities include:

  1. Assist in the maintenance of the physical facilities, equipment, and horses used in the program.
  2. Set up the horseback riding area. This includes pre/post season set up as well as daily use.
  3. Daily care of horses (feeding, watering, grooming, cleaning stalls and barn, etc.).
  4. Maintain and conduct daily check of area and equipment (all tack, stalls, arena, etc.) for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.
  5. Review horses for health needs, behavioral issues, and tack needs.
  6. Ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow safety and educational procedures.
  7. Assist in the implementation of staff training for horseback riding including rules of the trail, barn, arena, and safety equipment.
  8. Train other staff in their responsibilities when horseback riding.
  9. Ensure campers and staff follow safety procedures.
  10. Be knowledgeable about the horseback riding arena and trails available to the program.
  11. With the Riding Director and Intern, assist in the planning, direction, and supervision of:
  12. A safe and fun horseback riding program.
  13. Developing camp appropriate horseback riding activities and lesson plans.
  14. Planning of special events on or near the horseback riding arena.
