General Description:

William Woods University is accepting applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position to teach equestrian studies as the Hunter/Jumper Instructor for the College of Equestrian Studies. The Hunter/Jumper faculty is responsible for teaching applied riding courses, applied theory courses, and other equine and equestrian courses . This position supervises the management and care of all horses used in the hunter/jumper string. The individual holding this position will also have the responsibility of coaching William Woods’ riders at local, regional, and national competitions.

The contracted teaching load is 12 hours per semester, with the opportunity to teach summer classes and intercession courses. Full-time faculty are expected to participate in faculty and campus committees, attend faculty assembly and college meetings, and conduct program and class assessments in accordance with standards developed by the University and outside accrediting entities. Faculty are also expected to develop educational programs to be presented to the campus at large as part of the University LEAD program and to attend such programs sponsored by other faculty in the university. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  •       Teach hunter/jumper riding courses to William Woods University students

o   Must be capable of teaching group lessons

o   Able to coach and assist WWU students at horse shows

  •       Supervise and manage horses, tack, horse care, and related facilities
  •       Serve as the faculty sponsor of the Hunter/Jumper Club (student organization)
  •       Teach various horse related courses to William Woods University students including teaching and managing horses
  •       Maintain the integrity of the hunter/jumper program at William Woods in the following ways:

o   Assist with the leases of horses over the summer and winter breaks

o   Assess the suitability of horse donations and work with donors to secure horses that will strengthen the hunter/jumper string

o   Demonstrate strong industry and alumni relations for future donations

o   Maintain a high visibility profile within the local and national community

  •       Demonstrate and cultivate strong relationships with industry stakeholders to assist with job and internship placement for students.
  •       Assist students with academic advising.
  •       Prepare course syllabi for assigned courses that meet the needs of students and accreditation requirements.
  •       Participate in the development of assessments and evaluation of courses and the program for continuing improvement.
  •       Maintain professional development according to personal and professional need.
  •       Assist in recruitment efforts for the program by participating in university recruitment events and communicating with interested students.
  •       Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  •       Master's degree required.
  •       Professional experience in the equine industry.
  •       Ability to perform teaching, administrative, and clerical duties independently in order to fulfill goals and objectives of the program within the overall mission of the College of Equestrian Studies, the School of Arts & Sciences, and the University.
  •       Teaching experience at a higher education institution is preferred.
  •       Demonstrated commitment to professional development, strong work ethic, and a commitment to working well with others.
  •       Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with integrating instructional technology into classroom experiences.
  •       Show coaching and training experience at the rated level
  •       Experience and ability to drive a truck and horse trailer
  •       Class E driver’s license or higher or intention to obtain this licensure.

Work Schedule:

This is a 9-month full-time position beginning January 2025. This position will be open until filled.
