Equine Apparel & Tack Inventory Purchasing & Development Agent

Job Description

Key responsibilities

  1. Sourcing and Vendor Management:
  2. Research and identify new products and suppliers in the equine apparel and tack market, considering trends and customer needs.
  3. Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and new vendors, negotiate pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules.
  4. Follow product stages from sample management, sample approval, production sample management, order, on-time shipment, quality inspections, final production sample sign off, shipment, logistics up to data archival
  5. Keep production on a tight on-time delivery schedule
  6. Evaluate supplier performance based on criteria like product quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
  7. Purchasing & Inventory Control:
  8. Analyze sales data and market trends to forecast product demand and determine optimal inventory levels.
  9. Place purchase orders and ensure timely delivery of products.
  10. Monitor inventory levels to prevent stockouts and overstocking, adjusting orders as needed.
  11. Track purchases, shipments, and reconcile invoices with purchase orders.
  12. Cost Management & Negotiation:
  13. Negotiate with vendors to obtain the best pricing, discounts, and terms of purchase.
  14. Analyze price proposals and data to make cost-effective purchasing decisions.
  15. Identify opportunities for cost savings and suggest alternative products or suppliers.
  16. Record Keeping & Reporting:
  17. Maintain accurate records of all purchases, deliveries, stock levels, and vendor information.
  18. Generate reports on inventory adjustments, sales performance, and vendor metrics.
  19. Product Knowledge & Market Trends:
  20. Maintain a deep understanding of the equestrian industry and equine products, including apparel (breeches, show coats, helmets, boots), tack (bridles, bits, girths, stirrups, leg protection), stable equipment, and horse care products.
  21. Stay informed about industry trends, new product releases, and market dynamics by attending trade shows and engaging with industry professionals.
  22. Compliance & Problem Solving:
  23. Ensure all purchasing activities comply with relevant regulations, company policies, and procedures.
  24. Resolve issues related to defective materials, late deliveries, or other vendor-related discrepancies. 


Qualifications and skills

  1. Strong understanding of equine products, horse tack, and equestrian sports.
  2. Proven experience in purchasing, inventory management, or a related role, ideally within the equestrian industry.
  3. Excellent negotiation and interpersonal skills to build rapport and effectively manage vendor relationships.
  4. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to make data-driven decisions and address procurement challenges.
  5. Proficiency in inventory management software and strong computer skills (e.g., Excel, Word, Google Suite).
  6. Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to track multiple orders and maintain accurate records.
  7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  8. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  9. Bachelor's degree in business administration, supply chain management, or a related field (preferred but not always mandatory).
  10.  International purchasing experience is preferred
  11. Minimal international travel may be required
