Donkey Rescue Caretaker/Groom

Experienced caretakers/grooms will have duties that include general barn work, feeding, cleaning stalls, barns and paddocks, helping with vet, farrier and dentist, turn out, grooming and handling of donkeys and some night check duties (rotating with other staff).

We don't expect anyone to necessarily have much, or any donkey experience, but it is necessary that applicant have experience working with green or young horses. Many of these donkeys and mules can be challenging and this job is not for someone without significant experience. We will train and teach applicant the specifics of working with these donkeys and mules, but a thoughtful, patient, and confident person is a must.

We are looking for candidates who have experience working in top quality barns and who are self starters, confident, and understand how to work in a busy, professional barn. If you are looking for a break from the intensity of a show barn, but have that skill and training, this might be a great change of pace for you. We offer a first class facility and are very serious about taking exceptional care of all the residents at our rescue.

A good sense of humor is necessary, as donkeys will humble even the best horse trainers. Come here ready to learn how to become an even better horseman.

We do have shared housing for up to three women employees that we can offer. The house is located 2 miles from the farm and is brand new construction. Pets are allowed on a case by case basis.
