Peterson Smith Equine Hospital + Complete Care is currently seeking an experienced Director of Equine Veterinary Patient Care Staff to join our team.  This is a full-time position that typically works Monday – Friday, but the candidate will be expected to work other shifts as needed for mentoring, training, and shift coverage.

As the Director of Equine Veterinary Patient Care Staff, you will lead a dedicated group of equine technicians, ensuring seamless patient flow and care while maintaining high standards of nursing and surgical excellence.  This is a chance to be part of an Ocala veterinary legacy.

What You Will Do:

Team Leadership: Hire, inspire, and mentor current and new team members.  

Advanced Clinical Excellence: Administer and develop SOPs that ensure our patient care remains world-class.

Training and Professional Development: Develop new and current team members by providing hands-on training, demonstrations, lectures, and other avenues of learning.   

Strategic and Budget Oversight: Work closely with the COO to develop and accomplish strategic company goals and manage fiscal responsibilities, including budgeting and resource allocation within the clinic.

Quality Control: Make daily rounds throughout the hospital to ensure patient care, medical records, documentation, equipment care, and use, cleanliness, safety, and biohazard standards are being met; take immediate action to correct any deficiencies identified.

What You Need To Bring:

Credentials:  VET Tech certification (CVT or LVT) or associate’s or higher degree in Equine Science is a plus.

Experience: Previous progressive experience as an equine veterinarian technician with excellent horse-handling experience across a wide range of breeds and ages. Previous experience as an anesthesia technician is preferred.

Clinical Skills: Proficient in advanced medicine and surgical nursing procedures within an equine veterinary practice.  

Leadership: A proven track record of supervising teams while projecting a positive and professional attitude that inspires trust, respect, and collaboration.

Physical Abilities: Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time; must be able to lift 50 lbs.
