Assistant Manager - Thoroughbred Breeding Farm

Thoroughbred breeding farm looking for the right candidate for a 400 acre farm with approximately 80 horses. Fortune Ticket, a full brother to Gun Runner, currently stands at Lady Olivia at North Cliff and we are working hard to help him shine as a stud.

The ideal candidate will have farm maintenance experience. Must have experience driving a truck and gooseneck trailer and operating tractors with PTO. Physical labor required, including fence repair, stall cleaning, and general horse care. Farm carpentry skills and landscaping experience preferred. Candidate should expect to work in all weather conditions and may be expected to commute between properties in Maryland and Northern Virginia.

The Assistant Manager will be working with youngstock, mares and stallions. Confidence around horses is a major requirement. English riding experience is preferred, quiet hands on English contact is required.

Candidate must be organized and proactive. The Assistant Manager will work closely with the Farm Manager to maintain thorough records of breeding and racing stock, communicate effectively with employees and contractors, and maintain herd health. They may be asked to assist Broodmare Manager in record-keeping, breeding shed duties, and night-time foal watch.

Candidate should be able to recognize basic horse ailments(i.e. colic, abscess, etc.). Treat injuries and illnesses as they arise, either independently or under the direction of the farm manager or vet. IV or IM Shots may be administered as needed.

Salary: $45,000-$52,000, depending on experience level
