Executive Director

Summary of Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for the overall operation and management of GAIT EAS in keeping with its
mission: To improve the quality of life of children and adults with special needs through equine activities
and therapies resulting in a more independent life in society. This includes its staff, riders/participants,
volunteers, horses, and facilities. Responsibilities include: staff supervision, equine assisted services
program development, community outreach and collaboration; GAIT EAS’ budget planning and
implementation; managing therapeutic riding programs according to PATH International standards, with
the utmost attention given to safety.
REQUIREMENTS:
 Minimum bachelor’s degree, master’s degree preferred.
 Minimum 5 years’ experience in business, nonprofit preferred.
 At least 2 years of management experience.
 Equine knowledge and experience, years of owning, riding, teaching preferred, but not required.
 Ability to network in the community for participants, funding, grants, fundraising, and goodwill.
 Experienced in social media and digital technology.
 Excellent writer for newsletters, newspaper releases, brochures, grants, public addresses.
 Complete all required employment background checks.
JOB DUTIES:
Assume primary responsibility for daily operations: facility maintenance, security, safety, staffing,
horse health, volunteer training and coordination.
Supervise all staff: full time, part time, and volunteers.
Work with the GAIT’s Board of Directors for financial stability.
Know and implement GAIT Policy Handbook, reviewing and revising annually.
Know and familiarize yourself with PATH International standards, Board of Directors Manual, GAIT
business plan, staff job description, GAIT EAS Volunteer Manual, GAIT brochures, and update regularly.
Know and implement PATH International standards to maintain GAIT EAS’ status as a Premier Accredited
Center in the nation.
Always know and implement the mission of GAIT EAS and in all places.
Ensure all visitors are not only welcome at GAIT EAS but accepted as they are.
