Donkey Rescue Groom/Caretaker

Little Longears Miniature Donkey Rescue is located at a brand new, 100 acre facility in New Oxford, PA.  We are looking for experienced grooms and caretakers for the more than 140 donkeys, mules and ponies in our care.  Duties will include general barn work, feeding, cleaning stalls, barns and paddocks, helping with the vet, farrier and dentist, turn out, grooming and handling of donkeys and light training activities.

We don’t expect anyone to necessarily have much, or any donkey experience, but it is necessary that applicants have experience working with green or young horses.  Many of these donkeys and mules can be challenging, and this job is not for someone without significant experience.  We will train and teach applicants the specifics of working with these donkeys and mules, but a thoughtful, patient, and confident person is a must.

If you have been there and done that, and are looking for a break from the intensity of a show barn, this might be a great change of pace for you.  We are serious about taking exceptional care of all the residents at our rescue.

Salary is competitive, dependent on experience, and will be discussed individually.

Housing is offered as a part of compensation if needed.   A brand new construction, 4 bedroom home is available for shared housing.  Up to 3 employees (all women) will eventually share this house.  The house is located exactly 5 minutes from the farm.  Utilities are included.  Some pets may be considered on a case by case basis.

Donkeys have a strong aversion to dogs, so no dogs are allowed to accompany employees to the farm.  We do not have room for personally owned horses either.  No smoking, drinking, drugs or drama while at work.
